Chapter 4

Beloved, donít trust all spirits but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how yíall know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God. 3And every spirit that doesnít confess Jesus isnít from God. This is the spirit of the Antichrist that yíall heard was coming, and is already in the world. 4Yíall are from God, little children, and youíve conquered them because the One in you is greater than the one in the world. 5They are from the world, and they talk like the world and the world hears them. 6We are from God. Whoever knows God hears us, and whoever doesnít know God doesnít hear us. This is how we know the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of deceit.

7Beloved, letís love one another, because love is from God and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8Whoever doesnít love doesnít know God, because God is Love. 9This is how Godís Love was shown among us, God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10Love is in this, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son for the atonement of our sins. 11Beloved, if God loved us this way, we should also love each other. 12No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us and His Love is perfected in us. 13This is how we know we live in Him and He lives in us, because He has given to us from His Spirit. 14And we have seen and we testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world.

15Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he lives in God. 16So we have known and believed the Love that God has for us. God is Love, and whoever lives in Love lives in God and God lives in him. 17This way Love is perfected among us, so that we might have boldness in the Day of Judgement because just as He is, so are we in the world. 18In Love there is no fear, but perfect Love throws fear out because fear involves punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in Love. 19We love because He loved us first. 20If someone says, ďI love God,Ē but he hates his brother, heís a liar. Because whoever hates his brother, who he has seen, canít love God, Who he hasnít seen. 21This is the commandment we have from Him, that whoever loves God should love his brother, too.
