17So, Between Abraham and David there were fourteen generations, from David to the Babalonian Captivity there were fourteen generations, and from the Captivitity to Christ there were fourteen generations.

18Here’s how Jesus Christ was born. Joseph was engaged to Jesus’ mother, Mary. But before he slept with her, she was found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 19Joseph, being a righteous man and not wanting to embarrass Mary, planned to divorce her quietly. 20But then an Angel of God came to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, David’s son, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because her child was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21She’ll give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus because he’ll save his people from their sins.” 22All this happened so that God’s word, as the Prophet said it, could be fulfilled: 23"Look, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and he’ll be called Emmanuel” (which is translated as, “God with us”.) 24When Joseph woke up he took Mary as his wife, just as God’s angel told him to do. 25He didn’t sleep with her until she gave birth to a son, and they named him Jesus.
