Chapter 24

Jesus was walking out of the temple, and his disciples came to him to show him all the buildings of the temple. 2But Jesus said to them, “Don’t you see all these things? Yes I tell y’all, there won’t be one stone here left on top of the other.

3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, his disciples came to speak to him privately. They said, “Tell us, when will these things happen? What will be the signs of your coming and the end of the age?” 4Jesus answered, “Make sure that someone doesn’t deceive y’all. 5Because many will come in my name and say, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they’ll deceive many. 6You’ll hear about wars and rumors of wars, but don’t be disturbed. They must happen. The end-time hasn’t come yet. 7Nation will stand up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there’ll be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8These are all just the beginning of the birth pangs.

9“Then they’ll hand y’all over to be tortured, and they’ll kill you. You’ll be hated by all nations because of my name. 10Then many will fall away and betray each other and hate each other. 11Many false prophets will be raised and they’ll deceive many. 12And because of the increase of lawlessness, the love of many will grow cold. 13But whoever lasts till the end will be saved. 14And this Gospel of the Empire will be announced to the whole world as a testimony to all the nations. Then the end-time will come.

15“When y’all see the Abomination of the Desolation standing in the holy place, just like the word spoken through the Prophet Daniel said (let the reader understand), 16then whoever is in Judea should run away to the mountains, 17whoever is on the roof shouldn’t come down to get his things from his house, 18and whoever is in the field shouldn’t come back to get his clothes. 19Woe to those who are pregnant and those who are nursing infants in those days. 20Pray that you’re flight doesn’t come in winter or on the Sabbath. 21The suffering then will be greater than anything that has happened since the beginning of the world. And it will never be like that again. 22No one will survive unless those days are shortened. But because of the elect, those days will be shortened. 23Then, if someone says to you, ‘Look! Here’s the Christ!’ or, ‘Here!’ don’t trust him. 24Because false Christs and false prophets will stand up and they’ll give great signs and marvels so they can deceive, and if possible even the elect. 25See, I’ve told you ahead of time. 26So if they say to you, ‘Look! He’s in the desert!’ don’t go out. Or, ‘Look! He’s in the inner room!’ don’t believe it. 27Just as the lightning comes out of the east and flashes to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Where the corpse is, there will be the vultures.

29“Immediately after the suffering of those days, the Sun will be darkened and the moon won’t give its light. The stars will fall out of the sky, and the power of the heavens will be shaken. 30And then the sign of the Son of Man will shine in Heaven, and all the tribes of the land will mourn and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of Heaven with much power and glory. 31He’ll send His angels with a great trumpet, and they’ll gather together His elect out of the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

32“From the fig tree learn the parable, when its branch becomes tender and its leave sprout, you’ll know the summer is near. 33Just like that, when you see these things, you’ll know that He is near, even at the doors! 34Yes I tell y’all, this generation won’t end before these things happen. 35Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words won’t. 36That day and that hour no one knows, not the Angels of heaven or the Son. Only the Father alone. 37Just like the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38Just as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, until the day Noah went into the Ark, 39and they didn’t know anything until the flood came and took them away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40Then two will be in the field, one is taken and one is left behind. 41Two grinding in the mill, one is taken and one is left. 42So stay awake, because y’all don’t know what day the Lord comes. 43Understand this, if the owner of the house knew what time the thief comes, he would stay awake, and not let his house be broken into. 44So y’all must also be ready, because the Son of Man comes at an hour y’all don’t expect.

45“Who is the faithful and wise slave who the master put in charge of the house to give the other slaves their food at the right time? 46The slave who his master finds working when he comes is blessed. 47Yes I tell y’all, that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48But if the bad slave says in his heart, ‘My master is late,’ 49and he begins beating his fellow slaves, and eating and drinking with drunks, 50his master will come on a day he doesn’t expect and an hour he doesn’t know. 51He’ll cut the slave in two and put him with the hypocrites, and there’ll be crying and grinding of teeth.
