Chapter 7

Don’t judge, so that y’all won’t be judged. 2Y’all will be judged by the same judgement you give, and you’ll be measured by the same measurement y’all use. 3Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye, but don’t notice the log in your eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Here, let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a log in your eye? 5Hypocrite, first take out the log in your eye, then you’ll see clearly enough to take out the splinter from your brother’s eye.

6“Don’t give holy things to the dogs, and don’t throw your pearls to the pigs. Then they won’t walk all over them, and then turn and rip you to pieces.

7“Ask, and you’ll get it. Seek, and you’ll find it. Knock, and it’ll be opened. 8Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who seeks will find. Everyone who knocks will be let in. 9Is there anyone among y’all who, if his son asks him for bread will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for fish, will give him a snake instead? 11If y’all evil people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him!

12“So, in everything do for others what y’all want them to do to you. This is the Law and the Prophets. 13Go through the narrow gate. Because the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads off to destruction, and many people go through it. 14And the gate is narrow, and the road is hard that leads to life, and few people find it.

15“Watch out for the false prophets who come to y’all looking like sheep, but are really hungry wolves. 16Y’all will know them by their fruits. They don’t collect grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they? 17So, good trees make good fruit but rotten trees make evil fruit. 18A good tree can’t make evil fruit, and a rotten tree can’t make good fruit. 19Any tree that doesn’t make good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. 20So, y’all will know them by their fruits.

21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Master, Master,’ will get into Heaven’s Empire, but only those who do my Heavenly Father’s will. 22On that day, many will say to me, ‘Master, Master, didn’t we say prophesies in your name, didn’t we cast out demons in your name, and didn’t we do many powerful works in your name?’ 23And I’ll say to them, ‘I never knew you, leave me you evil doers!’

24“So, everyone who hears my words and does them, will be compared to the thoughtful man who built his house on rock. 25When the rain fell, and the rivers rushed, and the wind blew and beat on the house, it didn’t fall, because it was built on rock. 26And everyone who hears my words and doesn’t do them, will be compared to the fool, who built his house on sand. 27And when the rain fell, and the rivers rushed, and the wind blew and beat on the house, it fell. And what a huge fall!”

28When Jesus finished talking, the crowds were amazed by his teaching 29He taught them as if he had authority, not like their scholars.
